I have decided to switch Top of the Desk to the Posterous blogging platform. The blog will remain, just not on Tumblr. I will leave this site up, but all new posts will be on Posterous. Thank you all for your readership.

For the next week, I will do a trial run hosting Top of the Desk on Posterous. I am really enjoying the service so far, and I believe it may be superior to Tumblr. After one week, I will decide whether to return to Tumblr or stay with Posterous. If I do move to Posterous, the URL will be as linked above, and the RSS feed will change to this.

Flip Video Ultra Series: First Impressions

Yesterday I received my Flip Video Ultra Series. I selected the 60-minute model, in orange.

Pros

Small, light, and very portable
Batteries, pouch and wrist strap come in the box
USB arm means no fiddling with memory cards
Only about 3 seconds from turning on the power switch to being able to record

Cons

Video must be deleted from Flip itself, not from computer when it is connected via USB (otherwise, an incorrect “time left” value will be displayed)
No software support for Leopard as of yet (you can still copy the video files to your computer and do what you please with them, but the Flip application will not work)

Overall, I have been very impressed. You can find all of my videos, including some taken with the Flip, on Vimeo.
